Tectonic.

I can’t think of another word for it. How can one describe how it feels to feel one’s baby move for the first time? It’s as if a seismic shift in understanding occured when her body (head? foot? fist?) pushed back against my hand - pressed, waiting on Joanna’s tummy. It is the best tactile feeling I have ever experienced.

This was life-changing. We’re not dealing with pictures, advice, or forethought. This was our baby - our baby - pushing back, saying “I’m here! I’m coming! Get ready!” It’s a feeling that will stay with me for the rest of my life.

This is a tectonic shift. My inner-space continent of Fatherhood is taking shape rapidly. She’ll be here in a little under 4 months - we have a lot of work to do.

Well, it’s official.

The baby has a gender (wait, was that ever in doubt?). Let me re-phrase that, we know what we’re having. Check out my post at indydads.com for the info.
